Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (A.D.H.D) & Sensory Processing Disorder Ear Protection & Noise Reduction


Children who have Sensory Processing Disorder, Auditory Procesing Disorder or Autism Spectrum Disorder can have sound sensitivities and hearing protection can be a very helpful tool for them to use. 

Hearing sensitivities can have an impact on a child and how they function at home or in their community. Adults can also have hearing sensitivities too. Most people who have hearing sensitivities will avoid places they know are overwhemling or too loud. 

What may appear to us as not loud, could be very loud for a child who has Sensory Processing Disorder. A noise that is low for us could cause a child to have sensory overload. A child could feel comfortable in some enviroments without using noise reduction headphones while others it could be too much for them. 
 



There are many local events and businesses in your communities that may offer a sensory friendly experience for children and adults too. 


A child will not always require noise reduction headphones but it's always a good idea to take them along. Using hearing protection can reduce a child's anxiety and stress. 

Each child will have their own preference to which hearing protection feels most comfortable. Some will prefer noise reduction earmuffs while others will prefer ear plugs. 

Planning outtings or going to school could require hearing protection for loud or unexpectant noises. If you are unsure which noise protection would be best for your child's sensory needs you can always consult with your child's Occupational Therapist or family doctor.
